From Depression to Destiny Book to Benefit CANSA
1 in 3 individuals in South Africa has been diagnosed with depression. Depression affects cognitive functions such as decision making, concentration, memory, problem solving abilities, and productivity.
“If an employee has depression and is at work, they are 5 times less productive than an employee who is absent due to depression,” says Psychiatrist and Clinical Psychologist Dr Frans Korb.
Most people aren’t aware that cancer and depression often occur together in those who live with cancer. When we think of cancer we immediately think of the physical impact of the illness such as hair loss, weight loss, pain, etc.
What is often not taken into consideration are the mental health problems that are associated with the diagnosis and side effects of treatment. Affected individuals are likely to experience depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts.
CANSA and Dr Lloyd Magangeni are partnering in educating the public, cancer patients, loved ones and employees through a book called ‘From Depression to Destiny – How to Win Over Depression’. For every book bought from July to 31 August 2019, Dr Magangeni will donate 30 % towards CANSA.
The book is available through SADAG and African Flavour Books.
