CANSA Welkom kicks off SunSmart & Shavathon 2013
Lauden Mc Farlane, CANSA Community Mobiliser for the Welkom Region, was invited to speak on Radio Panorama about the SunSmart campaign. She advised the listeners that they could contact their local CANSA Office to have CANSA visit their outdoor activities to provide sunscreen and information about staying safe in the sun.
Lauden and the CANSA volunteers visited various schools in the area on their athletics days. They handed out sun screen to the learners, teachers and parents.
CANSA held an exhibition at the public library in Welkom on the 4th February, as part of the World Cancer Day celebrations.
In February, Lauden gathered up the CANSA volunteers again, collected the Orion Shool children and teachers, and took them to the Welkom Flea Market where they held a SunSmart campaign. This was also used as a platform as a build up to the 10th Annual Shavathon.
The 10th Annual Shavathon was officially kicked off at the Riebeeckstad Primary School on the 15th February.
The schools were excited to have CANSA present at their outdoor events and CANSA would like to thank all the schools involved for giving us the opportunity to provide the scholars with information on how to protect themselves in the sun.
We would also like to thank the schools involved for allowing us to promote the 10th Annual Shavathon at the schools and to spray all the children’s hair.
Please contact Lauden Mc Farlane at 057 – 353 2112 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or if you would like to invite CANSA to your events.
