CANSA Tygerberg Care Home ‘Come & Share’ Event and Open Day
It is important that cancer Survivors (patients) and loved ones are given the opportunity to receive support, share their cancer journey and celebrate life. A ‘Come & Share’ event was held at CANSA’s Tygerberg Care Home on the 26th August 2015 to encourage Survivors. They leave behind their husbands, children and family to come and receive much needed cancer treatment. Sometimes they are away from family and friends for between 6 to 12 weeks at a time.
As it is very costly for their families to come and visit, friends of staff / volunteers are requested to visit them, sharing a home cooked meal with them, spoiling them, & talking and laughing with them. The smiles on their faces show how much they appreciate this.
CANSA’s Tygerberg Care Home makes it possible for these cancer Survivors to receive treatment, but also to experience a homely atmosphere. The Care Home is nothing like a hospital – it’s warm and inviting!
On the 4th August 2015 an Open Day was held at the Care Home. Speakers addressed residents & visitors from the local community & Tygerberg Hospital. Look Good Feel Better, Sh’zen, Reach for Recovery and CANSA did demonstrations and had exhibition tables. Patients were also pampered and some received breast prostheses or wigs from CANSA.
