CANSA TLC Launch for Youth & Families Affected by Cancer in Kimberley
CANSA’s Kimberley branch was very excited to launch the ‘CANSA-TLC Child Support Room’ on the 27th September 2013. The event took place at the CANSA Kimberley Care Centre and many sponsors, volunteers, as well as families affected by cancer, joined us in celebration and cutting of the ribbon to officially open this new room.
It was moving to see the positive response from the community, who wish to improve support to children affected by cancer in our community. Each sponsor, supporter and child had the opportunity to post their leaf on the TLC tree mural in the room. Although there are only a few leaves on the tree at this stage, we are confident that many more will follow in the future.
The CANSA Kimberley Care Centre provides a service to 50 towns in the Northern Cape region. The need for support in rural areas is increasing at a rapid pace and information, warnings signs re childhood cancer and active support of families affected by cancer is needed.
Many families need to travel to Kimberley from the rural areas, for treatment. Some may be transferred to Bloemfontein temporarily for treatment, but the follow up support needed will be offered at the Kimberley CANSA Care Centre. This is why our ‘TLC Support Room’ is so important in helping us to provide much needed support to these children and their families. “I believe that this service can add unbelievable value to our existing support for families,” said Eileen Snyders (Regional Manager Kimberley).
This new addition to CANSA-TLC will increase support to children on a national level, helping CANSA to offer a tangible loving care service to battling families. Read more about CANSA’s TLC Programme…
