CANSA Cape Metro Creating Cancer Awareness
CANSA Cape Metro in collaboration with the Lions Club and the Diabetic South Africa Mitchells Plain Support Group held a successful Wellness Day on the 5th August 2015 in Mitchells Plain.
The goal was to inform those living with chronic conditions, including cancers, about healthy living and how to manage co-morbidities.
CANSA provided information by means of:
- a cancer information stand
- information regarding Lymphoedema & practical demonstrations on identifying symptoms and managing this condition
CANSA Sheds Light on Lymphoedema
CANSA managed to recruit a few new Volunteers and another positive outcome was that the participants in the Lymphoedema practical session were keen to share what they had learnt, because they had found the information extremely helpful & not been aware of the facts previously.
(Out of the 24 participants, six were living with Lymphoedema for more than a year and were not aware of it!)
Lions Club and Diabetic South Africa Mitchells Plain Support Group offered glucose and cholesterol finger prick tests; blood pressure measurements, as well as BMI measurements to all who attended. CANSA acknowledges and appreciates the successful collaboration with these organisations.
CANSA Cape Metro staff were thrilled to have reached community members & cancer Survivors with new information, which could empower them to improve their quality of life.
